AZADI TOWER (TEHERAN, IRAN)
The architect, Hossein Amanat, won a competition to design the monument, which combines elements of Sassanid and Islamic architecture. It is part of the Azadi cultural complex, located in Tehran’s Azadi Square in an area of some 50,000 m². There are several fountains around the base of the tower and a museum underground. The iconic Monument des Martyrs in Algiers (built, 1982) shows a strong influence by this monument, in its general design as well as its details. Built with white marble stone from the Esfahan region, there are eight thousand blocks of stone. The stones were all located and supplied by Ghanbar Rahimi, whose knowledge of the quarries was second to none and who was known as “Soltan-e-Sang-e-Iran”. The shape of each of the blocks was calculated by a computer, and programmed to include all the instructions for the building’s work. The actual construction of the tower was carried out, and supervised by Iran’s finest master stonemason, Ghaffar Davarpanah Varnosfaderani. The main financing was provided by a group of five hundred Iranian industrialists. The inauguration took place on October 16, 1971.

CAVE HOTEL IN TURKEY, YUNAK EVLERI
Yunak Evleri is a combination of six cave houses with a total of 30 private cave rooms dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries and crowned with a 19th century Greek Mansion.
The name of the neighbourhood "YUNAK" comes from the old days when women used to do all their washing and of course, socialising by the fountain located at the village square. Being by the fountain and at the Yunak was the center of daily life.
These exceptional cave houses are renovated and decorated with care and in their own distinct style with strictly respecting the local character. The decor is elegant and personalized with beautiful hand-crafted furnishings and antiques. With 30 rooms, Yunak Evleri is small enough to be intimate, yet large enough to offer you privacy.
A labyrinth of narrow passageways and curved stone stairways lead to unique rooms tastefully decorated in warm Ottoman style. All rooms have private patios overlooking the Turkish Mesa.
In the stone mansion at the foot cliffs, music room with a good collection of music CDs and hi-fi system, a room with computer and and also wireless Internet connection, a DVD room with home theatre system room and a meeting room is located.
Evenings are characterized by sunset gatherings on soft upholstered Turkish pillows warmed by an outdoor fireplace। Candlelight dining is offered on the adjacent rooftop terrace.

50,000 MILK CARTONS MAKE A GREAT CASTLE
Built back in May, during an event that took place in Granada, Spain, this recycled castle was made of 50,000 empty milk cartons.
Designed by the students of the Facultad de Arquitectura de Granada (Granada’s Architectural College), the milk carton castle of Granada was built exclusively out of tens of thousands of empty milk cartons, gathered by over 5,000 primary school children. The three schools that gathered the most number of milk cartons had the privilege to attend the unveiling ceremony and see the end result of their efforts.
The 29-meters-long, 14.07-meter wide and 7-meter-high milk carton castle was acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records as the biggest sculpture ever made with recycled materials.

MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE IN THE WORLD
Kudzu vine was brought from eastern Asia in 1876 and can grow more than 6.5 feet a week. Its starchy roots plunge deep into the soil, and just a fragment of the plant remaining in the ground is enough to allow it to come back next season. Few houses are abandoned and allowed to be taken over by vegetation. However, in parts of the south including the city of Atlanta those that are, are susceptible to being engulfed by kudzu.
